State Approves Expansion of Laurel's Designated Sustainability Area

The distinction allows businesses to apply for state assistance under the Neighborhood BusinessWorks loan program.

From the City of Laurel:

Mayor Craig A. Moe has announced that the State of Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development has approved the expansion of the Designated Sustainability Area within the City. The expanded area now includes Main Street from Fourth Street to Seventh Street (MD-216).

The designation allows businesses to apply for State assistance under the Neighborhood BusinessWorks programs, which provides for acquisition, inventory and fixtures, and other funds necessary in establishing or relocating a business within the Sustainable Area.

The City’s newly expanded Sustainability Area now includes most properties on both sides of Route One from Cherry Lane to the Howard County line, and from Main Street westward to Seventh Street.

Mayor Moe, in addition to offering the City’s own Relocation Assistance incentives for business relocation, signs, and facades for the Main Street area, stated the combination of the City and State incentives provides a lucrative package of assistance to small businesses who wish to locate in the City. Mayor Moe strongly encourages businesses to take advantage of these programs.
