Airmen March Through Maryland to Honor Fallen Friend

Thirteen members of the Air Support Operations Squadron passed through Gambrills on their way to Arlington National Cemetery to honor a fallen airman.

A group of Airmen rucked their way through parts of Maryland last week in honor of a fellow service member who died a year ago in Afghanistan.

The Air Force News Service reported on the 13 members of the 13th Air Support Operations Squadron, who trekked 140 miles from Dover Air Force Base to Arlington National Cemetery. They arrived in Virginia on the one-year anniversary of the death of Maj. Walter David Gray, who was killed by a suicide bomber on Aug. 7, 2012.

Air Force News reported that the airmen were not able to attend Gray's funeral because they were still deployed, and that their trek last week offered a chance to get closure.

A photo from the Air Force shows the group walking along a road in Gambrills last week.
