'Back to School Brigade' to Help Fort Meade Kids

Backpacks from Operation Homefront DC will be distributed on August 14 in Lanham.

Students at Fort Meade will be among the recipients of backpacks stuffed by the "Back to School Brigade" next week.

Volunteers from Operation Homefront DC Metro, which holds events to support service members and their families, will hand out stuffed backpacks on August 14 as part of a campaign to help military kids throughout the region.

The backpack stuffing event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 9800 Good Luck Road in Lanham. Backpacks will also go to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and the Annapolis VFW Hall.

Volunteers will hand out backpacks to children at other military posts in the region at four other dates next week.

Singhal and Company LLC of Chantilly, VA provided employees to fill 1,000 backpacks. The backpacks were filled with essential back-to-school items through donations and contributions from Dollar Tree stores.
