Could This Be Odenton's Newest Monument?

A local developer is eyeing the corner of Town Center Boulevard and Annapolis Road for a clock tower and signage for local businesses. 

The Dolben Cos. has drawn up rough plans for the monument, which would be located adjacent to the Village at Odenton Station project near the MARC station. 

Members of the Odenton Town Center Plan Oversight Committee got a glimpse at the preliminary design on Tuesday night.

The design features a 15-foot tower featuring the words "Odenton Town Center." The words "Village at Odenton Station" would be underneath in smaller lettering. 

In addition, the monument would feature space to advertise at least six businesses and would have a video display.

The town center committee did not endorse or reject the monument design on Tuesday, but indicated that it could serve as a helpful landmark and create a sense of place in the town center. 

But, members noted that the Odenton Town Center Master Plan generally does not allow signage to be more than five feet tall. 

Committee member Parag Agrawal also noted that Odenton already has a new clock tower near the apartments at the Village at Odenton Station. 

The monument would be situated on land currently owned by Reliable Contracting, which is working with the state and other developers to build a large transit-oriented project in that area. But that project is still awaiting funding, leaving the land available for other uses. (The committee learned that the monument could be moved later if the land was later needed for development.)
