Fort Meade Cancels Events on New Ballfields
Installation officials say the fields are too muddy to handle large crowds that may come from a grand opening celebration.

Fort Meade has cancelled a pair of events to celebrate the opening of new sports fields on the installation, citing muddy conditions.
Garrison officials said in a press release that it the annual Fort Meade Family Fun Fair has been cancelled along with grand opening events for the sports fields on April 6.
“The fields are so damp we are fearful of the damage large crowds could do to them,” said, Lida-M. H. Payne, Chief of Fort Meade’s Child, Youth and School Services, in the press release. “Our current budget situation would make it difficult for us to repair any damage to the fields. We felt it important to protect them so that they are ready for play this spring for all of the baseball and soccer events already scheduled.”
