GORC Reports Vandalism, Thefts

Police and GORC officials reported a theft of equipment, plus damage to electrical equipment at GORC Park.

A local recreation council has reported several acts of vandalism in the last week and is seeking the public's help in finding those responsible.

The GORC board of directors issued a letter this week describing several incidents, including the theft of sports equipment from a storage container and damage to the bathrooms and electrical service at GORC Park.

GORC officials said the equipment thefts were reported Wednesday morning, and pieces of sports equipment were strewn all over the park.

BGE was also called to repair damaged electrical equipment affecting the lower half of the park.

"Please keep an eye out for the park and report any suspicious activity you may see to the police to prevent any further incidents," GORC officials wrote.

Anyone with information can email park@gorc.org or use the link on the home page at gorc.org.

The full text of the letter from GORC:

Dear GORC Families,

We are writing to ask for your assistance. This week, the park and organization have had several incidents of vandalism resulting in several thousand dollars worth of damage. Anne Arundel County police are investigating and the Board of Directors is offering a reward for any information leading to an arrest. Information can be e-mailed to park@gorc.org or reported anonymously through the link on the home page at gorc.org.

Police were called Wednesday morning to the park to find one of the storage containers for sports equipment opened. Equipment from various sports was found destroyed and strewn throughout the aprk. Other pieces of equipment were also stolen. The incident is assumed to have occurred late Tuesday night.

On Wednesday night, another incident occurred involving the destruction of the bathrooms and electrical service to the lower half of the park. Anne Arundel County Recreation & Parks and BG&E have been on site to make every effort to ensure the park is safe for our community members. The timetable for repairs is still unknown.

Please keep an eye out for the park and report any suspicious activity you may see to the police to prevent any further incidents. Your continued support is greatly appreciated.

Regards,
GORC Board of Directors
