Update: Jessup Prison Inmate Dies Following Assault
Police said Javaughn Young succumbed to injuries after suffering head trauma on Thursday night. Officials say charges are pending.

Updated: (Friday, 4:46 p.m)– A Jessup prison inmate who was reportedly assaulted Thursday night has died at a hospital in Baltimore.
Maryland State Police and prison officials are are investigating the assault Javaughn A. Young, 26, a the correctional facility in Jessup on Thursday.
State Police said Young sustained a head injury and was rushed Thursday to the Shock Trauma center in Balimore. He died at the hospital at about 12:15 p.m. Friday.

Police said charges are pending against another inmate suspected of carrying out the assault.
Investigators said the incident happened at about 7 p.m. Thursday at the Maryland Correctional Institution-Jessup. One inmate reportedly told a correctional officer that Young was lying on a walkway. Young was treated on the scene and then transported to the hospital by ambulance, police said.

State police investigators have processed the scene for evidence. There is a joint investigation ongoing involving Maryland State Police and the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services Internal Investigations Unit. Investigators expect to interview more than 60 inmates who were assigned to the wing where the assault happened.
