Local Farm Offers 'Magical Walk' to the North Pole
The Willow Oak Flower & Herb Farm on Telegraph Road offers a unique experience for the family during the holiday season.
Children hoping to travel to the North Pole this year should look no further than Severn’s .
With just one touch of their “magical fairy dust,” kids and parents are whisked off into a lighted trail, ending with a visit to Santa’s shop and a pleasant dose of milk and cookies.
“It’s a 3,500-mile journey, so you need a little help if you’re going to make it in one night,” said owner Maria Price-Nowakowski.

Located off Telegraph Road, the family-owned farm has offered “Walking in a Christmas Wonderland,” a lighted Christmas adventure to the North Pole, for more than 20 years.
The scent of spices and herbs monopolize the senses inside the small barn prior to the adventure. Filled with flowers, vegetation and a few cats and dogs, the farm’s natural aromas are a welcome relief from the indoor stuffiness caused by winter’s cold nights.

The adventure to the North Pole is designed for children, but adults enjoy the trip too, said Price-Nowakowski.
The farm itself operates year-round, but the Christmas season brings a face-lift to the family-owned establishment as lights and holiday decor highlight the various trees, bushes and trails.
Through a trail leading to “the North Pole” in Price-Nowakowski’s property, the story of The Polar Express takes children and their parents through a magical tour of a gumdrop and candy cane forest, all the way to Santa’s workshop. Of course, children come across friendly animals in their natural habitat along the way.
When Price-Nowakowski, her husband, Martin, her daughter Heath Carr and employee Abby Leonard aren’t hosting a winter wonderland in their backyard, the group offers a wide variety of agricultural and gardening classes.
“We grow lots of things, like key limes and pink-flowered strawberries,” Price-Nowakowski said.
With a master’s degree in pharmacognosy, the study of medicine from natural sources, Price-Nowakowski went back to her mother’s land and has worked the local farm for 32 years.
Open Thursday to Saturday from 4:30-7 p.m., the locally owned and operated holiday adventure will run until Dec. 22. It is located at .
