Long Lines to Vote in West County

Residents of west Anne Arundel County reported long lines at polling centers Tuesday morning, with some prospective voters deciding to come back later in the day. 

Centers in Odenton, Crofton and Gambrills had packed parking lots, while voters in Severn said they waited more than 90 minutes during the morning rush. 

At Waugh Chapel Elementary School, voters sat in their cars and waited for voters to exit.

One man said he waited about an hour to vote. But then he pointed to a long line near the school's entrance. 

"This wasn't here when I started," he said. 

Dave Daughters of Gambrills was found exiting Four Seasons Elementary School at about 10:30 a.m. He hadn't voted. 

"I have an appointment in Annapolis at 11:30...I can't stay any longer," he said. "I'll give it another try this afternoon, I guess."

Crystal Ridge of Severn said she waited from 7:15 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. to vote at Severn Elementary. Many other morning voters said lines were long even before polls opened at 7 a.m.  

For the most part, the mood was cheerful. Girl Scout and Brownie troops took advantage of the opportunity to sell cookies at polling stations.

At Odenton Elementary School, Girl Scouts from Troop 96 quizzed each other on U.S. History as voters walked by. Wait times ranged from one hour to 90 minutes at the school on Tuesday morning. 

Most voters chose to stick it out, but others didn't. 

"We didn't even wait, the line is too long," said one woman who came to Four Seasons Elementary School with her two children. "I've never seen it this bad."
