Odenton Native a Mathematics Whiz

Josh Kaminsky, a senior at St. Mary's College, was one of the top performers in the difficult Putnam Mathematics Competition.

An Odenton native recently scored high marks in a difficult test of mathematics at the collegiate level. 

Josh Kaminsky, a senior at St. Mary's College of Maryland, scored 20 points on the William Lowell Putnam Competition. It was the highest score from any student of the college since 2006, according to a press release. 

Kaminsky's effort helped St. Mary's place 71st out of 578 schools in the competition, the best-ever showing for the college.

The Putnam Competition has been administered since 1938 and features 12 complicated math problems. Top scorers can wish cash or even a graduate education at Harvard. 

At St. Mary's, students are offered a one-credit seminar course to prepare for the Putnam Competition.
