Police Release Photo of Knife in Eastern Shore Murder

Edmond St. Clair of Severn died on Feb. 16 on the campus of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. State Police distributed an image of the murder weapon.

Maryland State Police have released a photo of a knife they believe was used in the stabbing death of a Severn resident in February.

Police said Edmond St. Clair, 21, died from stab wounds on Feb. 16 following an altercation at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, where he was a student.

On Wednesday, police distributed a photo of a Remington Sportsman's Series folding knife that was found near the crime scene. Other evidence found on the knife positively connects it to the scene, police said. The knife is deep orange in color, with a black camouflage print.

"State Police investigators believe the unique orange and black camouflage handle might be enough to prompt the memory of someone who may have seen the knife before," police said. "Anyone with information about the knife is urged to contact police immediately."

The investigation into the slaying has expanded beyond the University of Maryland Eastern Shore campus. Police said Homecoming Weekend at the campus attracted hundreds of people from the region, including many with no direct ties to the school.

Police on Wednesday also revealed additional pieces of information:

  • The suspects are described as three tall, African-American males. Two have lighter complexions. All three were wearing dark clothing and one may have been wearing some type of ski mask.
  • Investigators are looking for three possible witnesses who were in the area. Police said they are believed to have been walking toward the student apartments around the time of the attack. Two of the three witnesses may have had umbrellas, police said.
  • Strate troopers are seeking information about a light colored vehicle, possibly a Ford Taurus or Mercury Sable. Investigators said the car may have been in the area at the time, and they would like to interview the driver and any passengers.
  • Police also are trying to identify the driver and any passengers who were in a gold colored vehicle seen heading toward the crime scene.

Anyone with information leading to an arrest is eligible for a $10,000 award. Those with information are urged to call Maryland State Police at 410-651-3101, or Crime Solvers at 410-548-1776.
