As 2011 draws to a close, I've been thinking about the decade of war we've lived through since the Sept. 11 attacks.

In that time, some of the biggest enemies of the United States have been killed: Osama bin Laden, Saddam Hussein, Muammar Gaddafi and Kim Jong Il.

At the same time, there have been major changes in the tumultuous Middle East.
