Severn's BMX Track Brings Riders of All Ages

After last week's Maryland State BMX Championships, it appears the track isn't just for the young but also for the young at heart.

Two weeks ago,  at the Maryland BMX State Championships at . The riders, ranging in age from 5 to 55, gathered at to compete and share in their love of the sport. 

On of the racers, 54-year-old "Wild" Wayne Wilt, only picked up the sport five years ago, and emphasized his immediate love for the sport the importance of staying active.

Younger riders, like Rory O’Conner from , has been racing since he was 6, and said one of the best parts about the sport is that it's easy to start.

In addition to the impressive showing at the Maryland BMX State Championships, an article from The Baltimore Sun reports how even veteraned riders are getting excited about the sport's recent boom in popularity. 

Seasoned bikers like Mike Schwartz said the sport hasn't changed much over the years, which is why it's so appealing to new participants. He also credited the sport's popularity increase to the connective powers of the Internet and the ability to meet others who are passionate about the sport.
