Snow is Coming: What You Need to Know in Odenton

It was mostly a rainstorm Wednesday morning, but forecasts suggest snow is on the way.

Updated: (2:30 p.m. Wednesday)—Just when we thought we got through winter unscathed by a major snowfall, Winter Storm Saturn (if you want to call it that) has arrived.

Forecasts for the storm vary by location, but the latest Winter Storm Advisory from the National Weather Service is predicting that the Odenton area will get between 4-6 inches of wet snow throughout Wednesday into Thursday. Foot's Forecast said 3-6 inches in Anne Arundel County is likely. The storm is expected to bring winds of up to 30 miles per hour.

As of 9:45 a.m., the storm was largely a rain event.

The Anne Arundel County Fire Department said there were few reports of traffic problems or accidents as a result of the weather, but Odenton residents did report a overturned truck in the area of Piney Orchard Parkway and Waugh Chapel Road.

Of course, snow always brings the threat of closures to schools, government offices and certain services.

Patch will keep you updated on closures and delays. Here's a look at some of the institutions that are or could be affected.

Federal Government - The Office of Personnel Management has announced a closure of all offices in the Washington, DC, area. Emergency and telework employees must follow their agency's policies.

Anne Arundel County Public Schools - All schools and central offices are closed Wednesday. The Board of Education Meeting scheduled for Wednesday is also postponed. The good news is that the snow did not impact the playoff basketball game between Arundel and Meade on Tuesday. (Arundel won, and will face North Point on Friday.)

O'Malley Senior Center - The center is closed today.

Christian Assistance Program Food Pantry - The pantry at the Severn United Methodist Church is usually open Thursdays from 3-5 p.m. It will close if public schools are closed.

Fort Meade - The installation is closed, including all FMWR facilities. The base closed the Mapes Road gate due to a lack of traffic. Follow Fort Meade on Facebook and on its website.

MARC Train - There have been major delays on the Penn Line due to single tracking, as well as some cancellations. Metro will honor MARC tickets. The rail service said it will install the "S"  schedule on the Penn Line starting at 9:30 a.m. You can get updates by subscribing to the MARC email service or following @mtamaryland on Twitter.

Piney Orchard - The community center and indoor pool are closed. The fitness center remains open.
