State Board Approves Sale of Land for Trail

Efforts to build the South Shore trail between Odenton and Annapolis got a boost this week when the state approved the sale of some land in the project's first phase. 

The Maryland Board of Public Works approved the purchase of two parcels in Millersville comprising just under one acre. The sales included $95,400 for a parcel totalling 0.586 acres and another $43,453 for another parcel comprising 0.221 acres. 

The land is part of the proposed first phase of the trail, a 2-mile stretch from Maryland Route 3 to Waterbury Road.

A third parcel of land in the area was already acquired for $70,000 in September, according to the Maryland Gazette.

The acquisitions will be funded using grants under the Maryland Consolidated Capital Bond Loan program.

The land will be used as part of the northern portion of the South Shore trail, which is designed to extend from Odenton to Annapolis, a total of 16.9 miles. Currently, the trail only includes a stretch of 0.84 miles from the Westfield Annapolis mall to Anne Arundel Medical Center.
