Victims of Fatal Crash Had High Alcohol Levels, Tests Show

Three people who died in a crash on Piney Orchard Parkway in Odenton on March 31 were found to have alcohol in their system. 

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner reported that the driver and two passengers had blood-alcohol levels equivalent to nearly twice the legal limit. 

Toxicology information on a fourth man who survived the crash was not publicly available.  

Anne Arundel County police said David D'Augustine, 22, was driving the Subaru Impreza that struck a curb on Piney Orchard Parkway near Riverscape Road. The car left the road and crashed into a pole and two trees. D'Augustine was pronounced dead at the scene.

The medical examiner said D'Augustine had a blood-alcohol concentration equivalent to .15, nearly double the legal limit of .08.

Cousins Samuel Schindler and Katherine Warrington also also died in the crash. Police said Schindler was seated in the front passenger seat, while Warrington was in the rear left. Police said all three passengers were wearing seatbelts. 

Schindler's blood-alcohol concentration was equivalent to .17, while Warrington's was equivalent to .18. 

Michael Lee Phillips of Gambrills survived the crash and was airlifted to the Shock Trauma center in Baltimore. He was released from the hospital on April 16. 

Police have not yet completed a full investigation of the crash, though they said excessive speed was a contributing factor.
