Viral Videos, A Councilman is Charged and David Hasselhoff?
A look back at the week in news.
I was a little too young to fully enjoy Baywatch at its pinnacle, but that doesn't mean I don't quietly sing the show's opening theme song everytime I run into the ocean.
The running joke always seemed to be, "the faster I run, the slower I go," thanks to the overly-used slow-motion feature, traditionally used while the likes of Pamela Anderson or Carmen Electra crossed the screen.
Surprisingly though, my generation comprised of young 20-somethings, seem to enjoy the comical David Hasselhoff more than any other character from the show. "The Hoff" has become somewhat of a cult classic thanks to internet sensations like his trippy version of "Hooked On A Feeling" or various German pop hits.

Hasselhoff isn't grazing the shores of Santa Monica anymore, but Old Mill High School has its own in the form of Mat Postell.
Postell serves as a Lieutenant for the Ocean City Beach Patrol every summer when he's not teaching math or coaching tennis and soccer at Old Mill. He initially studied engineering but loved the beach so much that he sought an occupation where he could still enjoy Ocean City during the summer.

It appears teaching was the perfect fit.
Viral Videos
"Charlie bit me" and "Is this real life?" have become phrases in and of themselves thanks to the unstoppable power of viral video.
Something is posted online, a few million people watch it and boom, you've got it. Rarely are the videos intended to explode as they do, and that was exactly the case for me last weekend after shooting a video of Kobe Bryant playing soccer.
In fact, I caught him making a mistake, which in fact made it all the more appealing to become viral. After 72 hours, my 14-second clip had exceeded and I was left dumbfounded by the unpredictability of media.
I still can't figure out what truly makes a video go bezerk online. If you have the answer, I'd love to hear it.
Pay Up
County Councilman Daryl Jones (D-District 1) was charged with tax evasion by the U.S. Attorney's office last week after the file claimed Jones failed to report his income tax returns in 2005, prior to being elected as a councilman.
Working as a criminal defense attorney, Jones made $244,365 in 2005.
Jones released a statement the following day and said, "I am now up to date, but I was late in filing my taxes. It’s uncharacteristic of me to not address obligations in a timely manner, but to be candid, it was a very tough period,” Jones said. “I regret that it happened, and I have been working to resolve the matter. I’m now up to date in filing and paying the taxes and interest. I look forward finalizing the issue, fulfilling my responsibilities and moving on."
The charge was listed as a misdemeanor.
