$200K Lottery Win For Baltimore County Great-Grandmother

REISTERSTOWN, MD — Betty Hughes — a great-grandmother from Reisterstown who is an avid Baltimore Ravens fan — told Maryland Lottery officials she is planning a purple Christmas for her family after winning $200,000 on a Ravens X10 scratch-off.

She and her family members are also fans of the Lottery, the winner said on Dec. 13 when she and one of her daughters visited Lottery headquarters in Baltimore to claim the windfall. Hughes has three adult children, seven grandchildren and 18 great-grand-children, with another three expected in coming weeks and months. Her plan is to share her winnings with them.

Hughes and her daughter were shopping recently at the Giant grocery store at 11604 Reisterstown Road in Reisterstown when they picked the winning scratch-off.

“We always stop by the machines,” her daughter said. Betty scratched off her instant ticket on the spot.

“We were shocked when she scratched off that football,” her daughter said.

On the game, you win either by matching numbers or uncovering a prize amount with a football in the square.

Betty told her daughter, “Be quiet. We’ve got to get to the car.”

Asked if she plans to continue playing the Lottery, Betty said: “Oh, you know it.”

For its role in selling a top-prize winning scratch-off, the Baltimore County Giant receives a Lottery bonus of $1,000.

Remaining prizes in the $10 Ravens X10 game include six more $200,000 top prizes, three $25,000 second-tier prizes and four $10,000 prizes.
