45 MPH Winds In Reisterstown Possible As Temps Drop 35 Degrees: NWS

The Reisterstown area may experience strong wind gusts as a cold front moves into the region, the National Weather Service advised.

REISTERSTOWN, MD — As a cold front arrives Thursday afternoon, thunderstorms and strong winds are possible in Owings Mills and Reisterstown, according to forecasters. Temperatures that had been around 80 degrees will fall to the upper 40s by night.

The cold front will cross the Baltimore-Washington region between 3 and 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, the National Weather Service advised. Winds shifting from southwest to northwest may deliver gusts around 45 mph, officials reported.

"A few outdoor objects may be blown about, and driving may be difficult especially for those in higher profile vehicles," the National Weather Service advised.

A hazardous weather outlook for the region due to the potential for storms and wind associated with the cold front was issued for the following areas by the National Weather Service:

  • Anne Arundel County
  • Baltimore City
  • Baltimore County
  • Charles County
  • Harford County
  • Howard County
  • Prince George's County

The District of Columbia was also included.

These towns may be impacted, officials said: Reisterstown, Cockeysville, Baltimore, Bowie, Suitland-Silver Hill, Clinton, College Park, Greenbelt, Laurel, Camp Springs, Glen Burnie, Annapolis, Severn, South Gate, Severna Park, Arnold, Odenton, St. Charles, Waldorf, Columbia, Ellicott City, Jarrettsville, Aberdeen, Arlington, Alexandria, Falls Church and Dahlgren.

Thursday: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 4 p.m. then from 8 to 11 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 79 and low around 45. West wind around 16 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than 0.1 inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 68 and low around 52 degrees. Light and variable wind becoming south 5 to 10 mph in the morning. Increasing clouds as the day continues.

Saturday: A chance of showers, mainly from 2 to 8 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 66 and low around 39 degrees. Southwest wind 6 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 53 and low around 36.

Monday: A chance of rain after 2 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 54 and low around 42. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. A 40 percent chance of rain at night.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 58 and 40 percent chance of daytime showers. Low around 38.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 59.
