Baltimore County Under Multiple Weather Alerts As Storms Approach

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — With the potential for powerful storms to hit the region, a severe thunderstorm watch and a flood watch are in effect Thursday for Baltimore County and the entire Baltimore-Washington area.

Locally heavy rain with isolated cases of flooding may occur Thursday afternoon and evening, forecasters say.

Urban areas along the Interstate 95 corridor are under more of an increased threat of flash flooding, according to forecasters.

After 3 p.m., officials posted a flood watch for most of the Baltimore-Washington region that runs until 8 p.m.

Storms capable of producing 2 to 3 inches of rain an hour could create the potential for flash flooding, according to the National Weather Service. About 1 to 2 inches of rain are likely, with 4 inches possible in some places, officials said.

The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm watch at 1:55 p.m., and it will remain in effect until 9 p.m. It applies to the entire state, except western Maryland. A severe thunderstorm watch means storms with the following are possible: winds of at least 58 mph and/or hail at least 1 inch in diameter.
