Gas Main Break In Reisterstown: BGE Caps Leak, Lanes Reopen

A utilities problem in Reisterstown prompted hazmat crews to be called Wednesday afternoon, Baltimore County fire officials said.

REISTERSTOWN, MD — A high-pressure gas main broke in Reisterstown Wednesday afternoon, officials said, prompting nearby businesses to evacuate and shutting down part of Reisterstown Road for several hours.

Firefighters were called to the area of Nicodemus Road at Reisterstown Road at 12:48 p.m., officials said. Hazmat personnel and BGE crews were also called to the scene.

The gas main break occurred on Reisterstown Road between Hammershire Road and Highfalcon Road, the Baltimore County Fire Department reported.

By 3 p.m., authorities said BGE had capped the leak; fire crews were clearing; and northbound Reisterstown Road had reopened. Southbound lanes were still closed for digging, Baltimore County emergency management officials said.

Around 6 p.m, one southbound lane on Reisterstown Road was open, and by 7 p.m., the Maryland State Highway Administration reported all lanes had reopened.
