Freeze Warning, Watch Issued For Parts Of Baltimore County

Temperatures will dip below freezing in parts of Baltimore County, according to the National Weather Service, which issued two alerts.

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — Baltimore County is under a freeze warning Thursday and a freeze watch Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

During the freeze warning period, temperatures may drop as low as 30 degrees.

After 3:30 a.m., the National Weather Service issued the freeze warning until 9 a.m. for these areas:

  • Baltimore County (northern)
  • Carroll County
  • Frederick County
  • Harford County (northwest)
  • Howard County (northwest)
  • Montgomery County (northwest)
  • Washington County

These towns were specifically noted: Jarrettsville, Cockeysville, Reisterstown, Hagerstown, Frederick, Ballenger Creek, Eldersburg, Westminster, Germantown, Damascus and Lisbon.

Cool temperatures will continue through the end of the week, with temperatures dipping as low as 31 degrees and frost and freeze conditions possible again on Friday.

These areas are under a freeze watch from 1 to 9 a.m. on Friday, April 29:

  • Baltimore County (northern)
  • Carroll County
  • Frederick County
  • Howard County (northwest)
  • Montgomery County (northwest)
  • Washington County

These towns are included specifically in the freeze watch: Reisterstown, Cockeysville, Eldersburg, Frederick, Ballenger Creek, Hagerstown, Westminster, Germantown, Damascus and Lisbon.

People in these areas should take steps to protect tender plants from the cold.

To prevent outdoor water pipes from freezing and bursting, they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.

Parts of north and central Maryland, the Shenandoah Valley and north central Virginia foothills and the panhandle of West Virginia are under the freeze watch.

More periods of frost and freeze conditions could occur from Thursday night through early Saturday, officials say.

Wednesday: A chance of sprinkles after 5 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 53. Breezy, with a northwest wind 20 to 22 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph.

Wednesday night: A chance of sprinkles before 8 p.m. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 31. Northwest wind 13 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 57. Northwest wind 15 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph.

Thursday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 34. Northwest wind 8 to 10 mph.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 61. Northwest wind 8 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Friday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 36.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 64.

Saturday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 42.

Sunday: A chance of showers after 2 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 66. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent.

Sunday night: Showers likely, mainly between 8pm and 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 52. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent.

Monday: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 70. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent.
