MD Weather: Winter Weather Alerts Posted Across Maryland
The National Weather Service is calling for snow across Maryland on Monday, Jan. 3.

MARYLAND — Winter weather is headed for Maryland on Monday, according to the National Weather Service.
With the potential for several inches of snow, the agency issued alerts around the state.
Winter storm warnings are in effect for parts of southern Maryland, the D.C. metro and the Eastern Shore.

Anne Arundel and Prince George's counties could get up to 7 inches of snow Monday, according to the National Weather Service, while areas north in the Baltimore metro area may several inches of accumulation.

Anne Arundel, Howard, Montgomery and Prince George's counties are under a winter storm warning from 1 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday. The warning calls for 3 to 7 inches of heavy snow, which is likely to make travel very difficult.

These areas are under the winter storm warning:
- Anne Arundel County
- Howard County (central and southeast)
- Montgomery County (central and southeast)
- Prince George's County
- District of Columbia
During the winter storm warning period, winds may gust as high as 35 mph. The morning or evening commute may be impacted. People should keep an extra flashlight as well as food and water with them if they need to travel, officials say. Those walking outside should be extra careful taking their first steps on driveways, stairs and sidewalks, which may be slippery and icy.
Farther north, a winter weather advisory is in effect for Baltimore City and suburbs, where 3 to 5 inches of snow may fall Monday.

These areas are under the winter weather advisory from 1 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, calling for 3 to 5 inches of snow:
- Baltimore City
- Baltimore County (southern)
- Howard County (northwest)
- Montgomery County (northwest)
Northern Maryland may see less snow during the advisory period.
About 1 to 3 inches of snow may fall in these areas, which are under a separate winter weather advisory from 1 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday:
- Baltimore City
- Baltimore County (northern)
- Carroll County
- Cecil County
- Frederick County
- Harford County (northwest)
Drivers should give themselves extra time, slow down and plan on hazardous conditions during the morning commute.
Southern Maryland may see the heaviest snow, with the potential for 5 to 8 inches of heavy snow prompting a winter storm warning from 1 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday for Calvert, Charles and St. Mary's counties.
Parts of the Eastern Shore may see 2 to 6 inches of snow.
A winter storm warning calls for 4 to 6 inches of accumulation and wind gusts up to 35 mph for parts of the Eastern Shore from 4 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, including the Delaware beaches and parts of southern New Jersey.
A winter weather advisory for Maryland beaches calls for 2 to 3 inches of wet snow and wind gusts as high as 35 mph in the southeastern part of the state from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday.
