Owings Mills Pedestrian in Serious Condition After Being Struck By Car

Franklin Akins, 22, was crossing Lakeside Boulevard Friday evening when he was struck.

A pedestrian with serious injuries was taken to the University of Maryland's R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center Friday evening after being struck by a car in Owings Mills.

Baltimore County police responded to the area of Lakeside Boulevard and Common Brook Road at 7:24 p.m. Friday after receiving reports a pedestrian had been injured at that location, according to a statement from Lt. Robert McCullough.

The police investigation found that the pedestrian, Franklin Akins, 22, of the 4300 block of Flint Hill Drive in Owings Mills, was crossing Lakeside Boulevard in a westbound direction from Common Brook Road when he was struck by a 1998 Honda Accord.

Akins, who was not crossing in a crosswalk, was taken to Shock Trauma in serious condition, according to the statement.

The male driver was not injured.

The incident is being investigated by the Baltimore County Police Crash Team.

Police officials remind pedestrians to properly cross all streets and roadways by using available crosswalks and to obey any traffic devices.

Drivers are reminded to be aware of pedestrians and people traveling on bicycles and motorcycles.
