Severe Thunderstorm Warning: Hail, Lightning Possible In Owings Mills

Owings Mills and Reisterstown are included in the severe thunderstorm warning area.

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — A line of severe thunderstorms prompted the National Weather Service to issue a severe thunderstorm warning for an area including Owings Mills and Reisterstown.

The storms were on a line from the Taneytown to Mount Airy to Boyds area, and they were moving east at 40 mph, the National Weather Service reported after 3:30 p.m. Radar indicated wind gusts were 60 mph.

The severe thunderstorm warning is in effect until 4:30 p.m. for these areas: western Baltimore County, Carroll County, northern Howard County, northern Montgomery County and east-central Frederick County.

"Large hail and damaging winds and continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Move indoors immediately," the National Weather Service warned. " Lightning is one of nature`s leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning."

During the severe thunderstorm warning period, people should go inside to an interior room on the lowest floor to stay safe.

Wind may cause trees and large branches to fall, injuring people outside and damaging homes and vehicles. Roads could become blocked by fallen trees, and power outages are possible.

These areas may be impacted, forecasters said: Pikesville, Westminster, Damascus, Ellicott City, Woodlawn, Randallstown, Owings Mills, Eldersburg, Milford Mill, Reisterstown, Lochearn, Mount Airy, Hampstead, Manchester, Sykesville, Oakland, Gamber, Garrison, New Windsor and Union Bridge.

A flood watch and severe thunderstorm watch remain in effect.
