Due To Weather, Public Schools In Baltimore County Make Change Thursday

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — Baltimore County Public Schools will be closed Thursday, Jan. 20.

Classes are canceled, and so are school and community activities in school buildings. All childcare programs are also canceled Thursday.

School offices and central offices will open on a two-hour delay with the option to telework.

"Essential” employees should report on time for their assigned shift or may request to use leave time from the appropriate supervisor, while "essential as needed” employees will report to work as directed or may request to use leave time from the appropriate supervisor.

Officials said they made the decision to close schools after announcing a delay Wednesday night and reevaluating the weather Thursday morning.

Baltimore County is under a winter weather advisory until 11 a.m. due to a wintry mix.

School offices, central offices and the virtual learning program will also operate on a two-hour delay, Baltimore County Public Schools officials reported Wednesday night.

Morning prekindergarten classes are canceled Thursday, officials said.

Officials with Baltimore County Public Schools said they would reevaluate road conditions and provide an update at 6:30 a.m. Thursday.

The National Weather Service placed Baltimore County under a winter weather advisory due to the potential for snow from 4 to 11 a.m. Thursday.
