Sunny Day, Highways Update at Carney Meeting, Farmers Market Saturday

1. The Weather: Today should be sunny, with a high of about 72 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight will be partly cloudy, with a low of about 53.
2. From history.com's This Day in History: "On this day in 1793, George Washington lays the cornerstone to the United States Capitol building, the home of the legislative branch of American government. The building would take nearly a century to complete, as architects came and went, the British set fire to it and it was called into use during the Civil War. Today, the Capitol building, with its famous cast-iron dome and important collection of American art, is part of the Capitol Complex, which includes six Congressional office buildings and three Library of Congress buildings, all developed in the 19th and 20th centuries."
3. The Carney Improvement Association will meet at 7 p.m. tonight at Carney Elementary School. Christina Minkler of the State Highway Administration is scheduled to give an update on the I-695 at the Harford Road ramp project.
4. An "all natural, local and sustainable" farmers market will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Herb and Soul Gastro Cafe, 1702 Yakona Road. The market will feature fresh fruit, vegetables, baked goods, coffee and other items. Vendors include Zeke's Coffee and Talmar Gardens.
5. Advisors from the Small Business Resource Center are offering individual, one-hour appointments to prospective small business owners. The Small Business Counseling session will be held at the Parkville Library on Thursday, Sept. 19, with appointment times at 10 and 11 a.m., noon and 1 p.m.
Registration is required.
Sessions will also be held Oct. 17 and Nov. 21.
