ESSEX, MD — Officials announced Monday that they rescued 101 animals from an overcrowded Essex home.

Members of Baltimore County Animal Services and the Baltimore County Police Department said they saved rabbits, puppies, guinea pigs, hamsters, parakeets, cats, fish and adult dogs.

The Animal Services shelter now has limited space available. The shelter asked residents to adopt or foster some of its other animals.

“While these new intake animals are not available for adoption, many animals that were already at the BCAS facility are available,” said Carrie McCloskey, Chief of the Division of Animal Services. “We need residents that are able to serve as fosters to come forth to house some of our animals. We are also encouraging anyone who is looking to add to their family through pet adoption to come in and see the animals we have available.”

Animal Services is the only open-admission shelter in Baltimore County. That makes it hard to keep up with the increasing number of stray and surrendered animals at the shelter.

To incentivize adoptions, the shelter offers low-cost spays and neuters, gift card giveaways and waived adoption fees.
