45 MPH Winds In Perry Hall Possible As Temps Drop 30-Plus Degrees: NWS

The Perry Hall area may experience strong wind gusts as a cold front moves into the region, the National Weather Service advised.

PERRY HALL, MD — As a cold front arrives Thursday afternoon, the 80-degree temperatures in the Perry Hall area are slated to drop to the upper 40s by nightfall. Thunderstorms and strong winds are also in the forecast, according to the National Weather Service.

The cold front will cross the Baltimore-Washington region between 3 and 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, the National Weather Service advised. Winds shifting from southwest to northwest may deliver gusts around 45 mph, officials reported.

"A few outdoor objects may be blown about, and driving may be difficult — especially for those in higher profile vehicles," the National Weather Service advised.

A special marine warning was issued before 3 p.m. and runs through 4:45 p.m. on Thursday.

Boaters on the Chesapeake Bay and Patapsco River, including the Inner Harbor, should move to safe harbor, officials advised.

Wind gusts of at least 34 knots were reported along with showers on a line from Middle River to northwest of the Key Bridge that were moving east at 20 knots.

These areas may be impacted and are subject to the marine warning, officials say: Fort Smallwood State Park, Pinehurst, North Point State Park, Hart Miller Island, Gunpowder River, Gibson Island, Bodkin Point and Sevenfoot Knoll.

A hazardous weather outlook was issued for the region due to the potential for storms and wind associated with the cold front. It applies to these areas, according to the National Weather Service:

  • Anne Arundel County
  • Baltimore City
  • Baltimore County
  • Charles County
  • Harford County
  • Howard County
  • Prince George's County

The District of Columbia was also included.

These towns may be impacted, officials said: Reisterstown, Cockeysville, Baltimore, Bowie, Suitland-Silver Hill, Clinton, College Park, Greenbelt, Laurel, Camp Springs, Glen Burnie, Annapolis, Severn, South Gate, Severna Park, Arnold, Odenton, St. Charles, Waldorf, Columbia, Ellicott City, Jarrettsville, Aberdeen, Arlington, Alexandria, Falls Church and Dahlgren.

Thursday: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 4 p.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms from 4 to 5 p.m., followed by a chance of showers from 5 to 8 p.m. and chance of showers and thunderstorms from 8 to 11 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 81 and low around 47. West wind around 17 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than 0.1 inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 66 and low around 53. Light and variable wind becoming south 5 to 9 mph in the afternoon. Increasing clouds. South wind 7 to 10 mph.

Saturday: A chance of showers after 2 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 66. South wind 6 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. There's a 30 percent chance of showers before 8 p.m.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 5 and low around 37.

Monday: Partly sunny, with a high near 56 and low around 43. A chance of rain after 2 p.m. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. Mostly cloudy. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent.

Tuesday: A chance of rain. Mostly sunny, with a high near 58. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent.
