Crabber Dead After Falling Overboard In Chesapeake Bay: Police

A crabber was found dead after falling overboard near Hart-Miller Island, police said. He was 67 years old.

ESSEX, MD — A crabber was found dead Tuesday after falling off a boat in the Chesapeake Bay, authorities told Patch.

The Maryland Natural Resources Police was dispatched for an open water rescue around 11:57 a.m.

Officers said they were called to the area of Hart-Miller Island for the missing man, 67.

Crews said they found the man dead in the water near the northeast tip of the island around 6:02 p.m.

The man's body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore, where an autopsy will determine the cause and the manner of his death.

Authorities have not publicly identified the man. It's unclear if he was a recreational or commercial crabber.

The Baltimore County police and fire departments and the U.S. Coast Guard also assisted the search with aviation, marine and dive units.

The Natural Resources Police are still investigating.
