House Fire Claims 8-Year-Old Boy, 9 Cats: Baltimore County Officials

An 8-year-old boy and nine cats died after a house fire, Baltimore County officials said. Investigators identified the cause of the blaze.

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — An 8-year-old boy died after a recent Dundalk house fire, officials announced Monday.

Firefighters identified the victim as Nolan Mars and said nine cats also died in the blaze, which displaced seven residents.

Investigators think an electrical malfunction sparked the fatal fire Wednesday around 3:44 a.m. in the 3000 block of Dunleer Road.

Crews said they found Mars suffering from cardiac arrest in a second-floor bedroom.

Medics said they immediately started life-saving efforts and took him to a hospital.

First responders said they also took four other children and a man who escaped the house to hospitals with minor injuries.

Firefighters said they additionally saved two dogs from the home.
