Baltimore County Dentist Sentenced For Illegal Opioid Distribution
The sentencing came after he pleaded guilty to two charges, including one count of distributing narcotics, prosecutors said.
BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — A Baltimore County dentist was sentenced on Friday for abusing his dental license by illegally distributing opioid medications to a former employee.
Dr. Andrew T. Fried, owner of Perry Hall Family Dental in Nottingham, was sentenced in Baltimore County Circuit Court on Monday to 10 years in prison with all but one day suspended, Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown announced. He was also ordered to serve three years of probation.
Fried's sentencing came after he pleaded guilty to one count of distributing narcotics and one count of prescribing controlled dangerous substances outside the regular course of duties of a dentist, prosecutors said.

According to court documents, from April 2022 until May 2025, Fried prescribed oxycodone without a legitimate medical purpose to a former employee who worked as a dental assistant at Perry Hall Family Dental. Fried and the dental assistant would then split the oxycodone pills between themselves.
As part of his plea, Fried admitted that he purchased oxycodone pills weekly from his dental assistant. The dental assistant acquired the pills from close family members.

“Every Marylander who sits in a dental chair should trust that they're receiving competent, professional care,” Brown said in a statement. “This sentence protects Dr. Fried’s patients from further unsafe treatment and eliminates a source of opioids in our communities.”
