Brightview Perry Hall Incorporates Green Building Practices
Throughout the expansion process, environmentally friendly practices and sustainability efforts have been on the forefront.

From Brightview Senior Living: As Brightview Perry Hall’s expansion continues to progress, the environmental friendly practices and sustainability efforts at the senior living community in Nottingham, Maryland – especially on this Earth Day – are reducing negative impacts on the environment.
“During the development and building processes, the Development team constantly looks for opportunities to make our Brightview communities more sustainable,” explains Alan Siegfried, Vice-President of Project Management at Brightview Senior Living. “We are very respectful of the environment in which we build as we know residents are concerned about the impact on future generations.”
For one, Brightview Perry Hall emits low amounts of nitrogen oxide – the gases that contribute to smog and acid rain. Flooring, paints, and adhesives release little to no indoor pollutants and ‘green housekeeping’ and robust recycling programs reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills. Plumbing fixtures at the community, including faucets, toilets, showerheads, and washers, are low flow fixtures and, as a result, are water conserving, with a projected 35% water savings over typical fixtures.

The gas fired heaters at the community are 96% thermally efficient and are Energy Star certified which conserves energy. As well, a large percentage of lighting in the community is Fluorescent or LED lighting and appliances throughout the community are energy efficient and Energy Star rated, thereby further reducing energy usage. Natural light and connections to the outdoors are prevalent throughout the community, and open spaces and native and adapted plantings are abundant which conserves natural areas and promotes biodiversity.
Currently, the roof is complete and, inside, the first floor apartment homes, model apartment homes, and community spaces are taking shape as drywall is installed. In October, when the expansion is complete, the community will include 63 additional Independent Living apartment homes as well as a bistro-style dining area with a brick pizza oven, an expanded sports pub, a movie theater, and a game room with a pool table, shuffle boards, and poker table.
