Founded in 1946 by Jim Read, the California-based chain is still relatively new to Maryland.
Grocery Outlet debuted in the Old Line State in June 2022 in Hagerstown. Another two stores opened that year, followed by five in 2023 and four in 2024.
"Having multiple locations throughout Maryland allows us to be strategic with marketing and distribution, and we are especially proud to be able to offer the Overlea community members products at prices 40% to 70% below those of conventional retailers," Kasha said.
With hundreds of stores nationwide, Grocery Outlet is still expanding.
The chain broke ground on a Randallstown location in July 2024. Another store is planned at the Annapolis Mall in the current location of JCPenney, which is slated for redevelopment.
