Student Assaulted, Suspect Arrested After School Lockdown: Baltimore Co. Police
A student was assaulted and hospitalized, sparking a school lockdown in Baltimore County. Police said they arrested the 16-year-old suspect.

ESSEX, MD — Officials said a Kenwood High School student was assaulted and hospitalized Wednesday in Essex, sparking a school lockdown.
Police announced Thursday that they arrested the 16-year-old suspect and charged them as an adult on Wednesday evening. Officers did not release the arrestee's name "due to the suspect's age."
Authorities said they were notified of the assault in the 500 block of Stemmers Run Road around 2 p.m. Wednesday. That's located on the same block as the school.

Kenwood administrators said the "altercation" happened off campus, but the victim returned to the building and was immediately seen by the school nurse.
Medics took the victim to a hospital, the Baltimore County Police Department said. The victim is expected to survive.

"We activated our lockdown protocol out of an abundance of caution," Kenwood High administrators said in a Wednesday letter to families. "This is an active police investigation and we will share any additional information we receive from the police as appropriate. The lockdown was lifted at 2:25 p.m. and dismissal occurred as scheduled."
