Megabus Driver Swerved To Avoid Crash: Police

Police released the preliminary investigation results from the recent bus crash near Kingsville.

KINGSVILLE, MD — Police said the Megabus crash on Interstate 95 over the weekend happened when the driver tried to avoid crashing into another vehicle near Kingsville.

As a result of the crash, 15 people were hospitalized, according to Maryland State Police. Initially, 27 people were reported injured, and a dozen declined medical treatment, police said.

The driver was among the 15 injured people taken to local hospitals, The Washington Post reported.

The bus had been in the right lane on I-95 south between Bradshaw and Raphel roads when the bus driver swerved to avoid hitting another vehicle, the driver lost control; and the bus went off the road and overturned, police said.

Crews were dispatched to the crash at 6:55 a.m. on Sunday, fire officials reported.

The bus was on the way from New York to Washington, D.C., according to WTOP.

Neither impaired nor distracted driving was a factor in the crash, police said, adding that as of Monday, charges had not been filed.
