Albarran-Torres, owner and chef of R&R Taqueria, officially opened his authentic Mexican restaurant Tuesday at 5009 Honeygo Center Drive after relocating from the White Marsh Mall.
“It was time. We were growing so fast,” Albarran-Torres said. “There were a lot of families that were coming in and wanted to get the sit-down experience. So we decided this was the best move now.”

In his new expanded sit-down space, Albarran-Torres smiled excitedly, finally able stretch his culinary creativity.
“I get the space that I want. I get to play with things that I want to do,” he said.
He teased the possibilities of what could be done with a fresh guacamole cart, unique plating and outdoor seating on a warm summer day.
Fans of the R&R brand, name after Albarran-Torres’s sons Rodrigo Jr. and Roque, will remember the eatery’s cameo on the Food Network’s Diners, Drive-in’s and Dives.

But few may know the origin of Albarran-Torres’s rise through the restaurant ranks.
At 15 years and 9 months old, a young Albarran-Torres traveled with his father, who at the time was a career restaurant manager at a number of chain locations.
“I would go with him. I was his translator, his helper, his everything. That’s how I learned the kitchen,” Albarran-Torres said.
Albarran-Torres began cooking from kitchen to kitchen to support his other love in life—flying.
The restauranteur is also a commercial pilot and a certified flight instructor. Although, in 2009, like so many other pilots, Albarran-Torres was furloughed in a floundering economy.
It was time to make cooking his No. 1 priority.
R&R’s first location, a small shop in Elkridge connected to a Shell Station, opened in 2009.
“The opportunity came at the gas station [in Elkridge]. They were building out an addition and I asked for it,” Albarran-Torres said.
“The inspiration was my family,” he continued.
In its new shop in Perry hall, R&R Taqueria offers breakfast and lunch & dinner menus. Albarran-Torres described his wares as authentic Mexican cuisine like one would find off a food cart in Mexico City, his hometown.
His signatures dishes include tacos ranging from pork to lamb, chorizo made in-house and fresh-catch seafood. His favorite dish, Huaraches, which is spelled out in big, bold letters on the menu, is described as hand made Tortille mixed with refried beans, topped with Mexican cheese, any taco meat, avocado, sour cream and more cheese.
