MIDDLE RIVER, MD — A U.S. Army veteran won a $100,000 jackpot on a scratch-off in Middle River, the Maryland Lottery announced last Thursday. He picked up his prize Wednesday at lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

The anonymous victor, who served 28 years in the military, wasn't too surprised with his winnings.

“I wanted one with more zeros to it!” he said in a press release.

The Middle River man was already in the process of buying a pickup truck and a three-wheel motorcycle, so he isn't planning on purchasing a new vehicle. He's considering saving the money, but he said his wife of 35 years may decide how to use the prize.

“Maybe it belongs to my boss,” he said.

The winner plans to continue playing lottery games. His payday came on the $10 Gold Rush 7s Multiplier scratcher, but he sometimes bets on Racetrax, an animated horse racing game.

“I'm bored. It's a little hobby,” he said, noting that other pastimes include playing paintball, fishing and riding motorcycles with friends.

The man bought his ticket at Tobacco Quest, located in Middle River at 206 Ballard Ave. The store will collect a $1,000 bonus from the lottery for selling a $100,000 top-prize winning scratch-off.

This was the first of eight jackpots available in the Gold Rush 7s Multiplier game, which debuted May 20. The game still has 30 $10,000 second-tier prizes remaining. There are also smaller prizes ranging from $10 to $1,000.
