White Marsh Mall Offers Contemporary Style Tips for Prom

Prom is just around the corner, Perry Hall. T-minus 45 days to be exact! 

OK, so Perry Hall's prom might be a few weeks away, although students can start getting excited this weekend at the inaugural Prom Jam fashion show and interactive event at the White Marsh Mall. 

From noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, mall-goers will be treated to a fashion show featuring local high schoolers, hair and make-up demos as well as the chance to win a $200 gift card. 

“We want to provide teens with the latest prom tips and trends in an entertaining, stress-free way. Prom Jam combines all the elements important to teens—fashion, retailer deals, music and fun with friends—and it’s all free,” said Jessica Benson, marketing manager for White Marsh Mall.  

Organizers, working alongside Fashion Presentations, of Potomac, offered the following tips for a "magical" prom: 

COLOR – Black and white are classics, but be sure to consider color. Bold colors look great on most skin tones and you’ll be sure to stand out. Coral is the new orange. Plus, check out all shades of purple and greens from emerald to lime. 

PEPLUM – This look is a red carpet trend that has made its way to prom fashions.  Fun, flirty and flattering.

LACE, BROCADE & EMBROIDERY – These elements can provide a sweet and vintage look with an unexpected edge. Lace can be layered in a monochromatic look or as a contrast. Metallic embroidery becomes an accessory.

VINTAGE – From 50’s style ball gowns to updated 20’s flapper dresses, these new takes on vintage classics make a contemporary statement.

SLEEVES – A variety of styles from long to short, to cap sleeves create a feminine and unique look.  

ACCESSORIES – Over the top luxurious, featuring brilliant gems and rhinestones in cuffs, rings and hair pieces. 

HAIR – This year’s hottest hair trends include the Messy "up-do," half up/half down and the classic prom “up-do.”
