Perryville is a place like no other. And whether you grew up here, recently moved to the area or you’re just an occasional visitor, you know that Perryville has its own special traditions and history that make it so unique.
A few things to know:
- Did you know that Perryville played a significant role in the Revolutionary War? Colonel John Rodgers formed the 5th Company of the Maryland Militia in Perryville, which played a crucial role in the Revolutionary War as part of the renowned Flying Corps.
- Perryville is known for its fascinating history and notable visitors. George Washington himself was among the famous figures who frequented the town, leaving behind a legacy that adds to the charm of this riverside community.
- The Perryville Railroad Museum, located at the Perryville MARC Train Station, showcases the history of the railroad in Perryville through pictures, memorabilia and a model train layout. The museum is operated by volunteers from the Perryville Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society and aims to honor the town's railroad heritage with funding through public and private donations.
- Did you know the Perryville Greenway Committee encourages outdoor activities and is partnering with other trail organizations to create new trails, such as the Canning House Run Trail and the VA Loop Trail, and promote exercise? Perryville is also a member community of the Lower Susquehanna Heritage Greenway and has partnered with the Mason-Dixon Trail System.
- The Perryville Outlet Center is a shopper's paradise, with over 20 stores offering designer brands at discounted prices. Visitors can shop for everything from clothing and accessories to home goods and electronics.
