• With these grants, 55 local entrepreneurs get an early holiday gift (thebaltimorebanner.com) — Montgomery County just awarded $7.5 million in tech and small-business grants, including funding for firms based in Potomac and North Potomac. Local life-sciences companies like Mycologics and Nostopharma are among 55 early-stage ventures getting support to develop treatments, advanced electronics, and other innovations that could boost the area’s economy and jobs.
   

• Dorm at Israeli Research Center Named for DC Philanthropists (washingtonjewishweek.com) — Potomac philanthropists Gary and Pennie Abramson have made a lead gift to fund a new 16-story residence hall for international students and researchers at Israel’s Weizmann Institute of Science, which now bears their family name. Their daughter, Bethesda resident Amanda Abramson Posner, represented the family at the dedication, highlighting a multigenerational local legacy of Jewish philanthropy and support for scientific research.
