An Editor's Farewell

Riverdale Park-University Park Patch editor moves on to new Patch job.

It was in June 2010 that I moved to Maryland to help start up Riverdale Park-University Park Patch.

It’s been a while since my first encounter in University Park, when Lt. Wayne McCully explained the , after I was asked to show identification while idling in my car in a cul-de-sac on my cell phone.

Since then I’ve spent many Monday nights listening to council members discuss developments and permits, Thursdays at the and some weekends with University Park residents at a number of community events.

I’ve shared laughs, learning about the unique and creative residents in each town and loved becoming part of the community.

Although I was at the helm of the coverage, it’s with a heavy heart that I must announce that I will no longer be the editor of Riverdale Park-University Park Patch. I’m actually staying with the Patch family and will probably still end up covering some news in Riverdale Park and University Park, along with 11 other sites in Prince George’s and Montgomery counties as the region’s Associate Regional Editor.

Not to worry though. Starting Monday a new editor, , will be taking over. John is already a Patch editor and originally from Baltimore, MD, so he’ll fit right into the community in no time.

I hope you’ll continue to turn to Riverdale Park-University Park Patch as your main source for neighborhood news and send your news tips, story ideas and questions to John at johnd@patch.com.

It’s been my pleasure to cover your communities and I hope to see you sometime in the future at a council meeting or town event.

My contact information will remain the same, so if you have any questions or concerns, please e-mail me at sonia@patch.com.
