ROCKVILLE, MD — A woman in her 60s died in the hospital Wednesday from injuries she received in Monday night's fire at a home in Aspen Hill Park, according to a Montgomery County Fire & Rescue spokesman.

The woman is the second fatality from Monday's fire, according to a Thursday morning post on Twitter by Pete Piringer, an MCFRS public information officer. A man in his 80s with critical injuries was taken to the hospital with the woman, but he succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday.

County fire and rescue units responded around 11:15 p.m., on Monday for the report of a house fire on Oriental Street just off of Aspen Hill Road in the Rockville area, according to Piringer.

Arriving on the scene, firefighters observed heavy flames in the lower level and extending into the second floor of a split-level home, according to Piringer. The bedroom area was engulfed in flames.

"One occupant was outside," Piringer said. "Firefighters quickly found two occupants in the house. They were bought out. They were both in grave condition."
Firefighters found the man and woman unconscious and in an upstairs bedroom.

The fire displaced a blended family of five adults and two children, according to Piringer. The female victim was the wife of the homeowner and the male victim was the homeowner's father-in-law.

Fire investigators determined that the cause of the fire was electrical in nature and had started in an electrical panel in the basement. The fire caused an estimated to $225,000 in damage.
