Another Board Stint, Talkin' White Flint and Needing More Pocket Change, Not Lint

The Nationals seem to be back to their old ways, even with a new manager. The boys from Natstown dropped one with a complete meltdown in the late innings late last night in Anaheim.

By the way, has anyone else seen how crazily that infield has been playing in Anaheim? The Nats could’ve used some angels in the infield. Anaheim’s diamond could give Montgomery County’s softball fields a run for their money in terms of bad hops.

The Anaheim infield was replanted after U2’s gargantuan stage show came to Angel Stadium. (And apparently killed all the grass? I though the Irish were into green.) This comes after the Florida Marlins were forced cross-country to play a home game in Seattle. The reason? U2 in Miami. Moreover, the multi-day construction of U2’s stage and then U2 in Miami.

Watching all the bad hops the other night, Nats color man F.P. Santangelo had the same thought that I did: “Bono is killing baseball,” Santangelo said. (Really, I said it about 10 seconds before he did. Just ask my wife how scary/obnoxious that is.)

I talked to friends who saw Bono and the boys in Baltimore last week and they said the show was “amazing.” Of course they did. Any show that your friends saw and that you didn’t is “amazing.” If you see a show with your friends, then they’ve always “seen better.” Luckily for the O’s the band played across the street from Oriole Park at M&T Bank Stadium.

Mercifully, though the Nats are still on the West Coast, tonight’s game starts at 7:05 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. So—should you care—you might not have to struggle as much to stay awake for the late innings, sports fans.

Here’s your “Angels Too Tied to the Ground" edition of “The Rundown”:

• Rockville Mayor Phyllis Marcuccio has been reelected to the Maryland Municipal League’s 31-member Board of Directors, the city announced in a news release on Wednesday.
  Founded in 1936, the nonprofit, nonpartisan association represents 157 municipalities and two special taxing districts in Maryland.
  “I’m honored to serve again on the board,” Marcuccio said in the release. “MML achieved many great things in the past year, and I’m looking forward to representing Rockville and continuing to shape the future of Maryland municipalities.”
• Wondering what’s coming “down the Pike?” . This second charette on the plan was originally scheduled for June 16.
• Last call for cheap beer in Maryland! The new tax on alcoholic beverages and a bevy of other new laws go into effect on Friday. The city’s budget, with new water, sewer and stormwater fees, also goes into effect on Friday, as well as a new development review process.
• Water and beer aren’t the only government-regulated items getting more expensive on Friday. Ride On bus fares are going up as well. The Kids Ride Free program is back weekdays between 2 and 7 p.m. for riders with student ID cards. But there is an additional $2.15 charge for all riders on several express routes.
