• Meet Dare: Four-legged officer making history as 1st bloodhound with Rockville City police (wjla.com) — Rockville residents now have a new four-legged public safety partner: Dare, an 8‑month‑old bloodhound joining the Rockville City Police Department to help track missing children, adults, and vulnerable residents. Trained in scent-article tracking, she’ll assist Rockville and nearby jurisdictions and appear at city community events, where neighbors are encouraged to say hello.
   

• New smoke hoods give Md. firefighters critical time in high-rise rescues (firerescue1.com) — Montgomery County Fire and Rescue, based in Rockville, is rolling out new smoke hoods on every county fire truck to give firefighters and residents up to 15 extra minutes to escape high‑rise fires. Sparked by a deadly 2023 Silver Spring blaze and funded in part by the victim’s family, the Dräger PARAT hoods aim to improve survival in more than 75 unsprinklered high‑rise buildings countywide.
   

• Montgomery County restaurant openings outpace closures, data shows (fox5dc.com) — Rockville diners may notice chains like BurgerFi and Roy Rogers closing, but new data shows Montgomery County is still seeing more restaurant openings than shutdowns. While beloved spots in Bethesda, Wheaton, and Rockville have recently shuttered, county figures indicate hundreds of new restaurants with liquor licenses opened this year, slightly outpacing last year’s total despite ongoing economic pressures.
