MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — Several Montgomery County politicians have come out in support of Anthony Brown in his campaign for Maryland Attorney General. Among them are councilmembers and a former County Executive.
“I’ve known and served alongside Anthony for years. Over our long friendship and close working relationship, I’ve seen his commitment to service and fierce advocacy for the civil rights of every Marylander,” said former Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett in a news release. “In every office he’s served, Anthony has centered equality and justice as core to his work. No matter who you are, or what your background is, Anthony will fight for you as our state’s next Attorney General, as he has throughout his career.”
Brown is currently a representative for Prince George’s and Anne Arundel Counties in the House of Representatives. Before that he was the Maryland Lieutenant Governor, and served 8 years in the General Assembly, where he at times held the roles of Vice Chairman of the Judiciary Committee and Majority Whip of the House of Delegates.

“I am confident that Anthony will bring compassion, integrity, and his unmatched work ethic to the office as Maryland’s next Attorney General. Throughout his many years of public service, he has demonstrated his ability to get big things done on behalf of our state and fight for those in need of a champion,” said Councilmember Sidney Katz, a former County Council President and former Mayor of Gaithersburg, in the release. “Whether you are someone living with a mental health diagnosis, a survivor of domestic violence, or a family just looking for a fair shot - Anthony cares, and will work each day to make your life better as Attorney General.”

“Anthony believes, as I do, that all Marylanders are entitled to a safe, vibrant, and inclusive community, with great schools and a strong economy. As our next Attorney General, Anthony will keep that vision at the forefront of his efforts and bring a firm sense of justice to the office,” said Councilmember Will Jawando in the release. “Our communities face challenges, from the pandemic to an economy that leaves too many behind and a criminal justice system that for decades has put Black and brown Marylanders at a disadvantage. Anthony is the right person to take on these fights for our state.”
The election for the Maryland Attorney General will be Nov. 8, 2o22. So far, Republican Jim Shalleck has registered as a candidate, according to the Maryland Elections page.
Montgomery County Councilmember Craig Rice noted that if elected, Brown will be the first Black Attorney General in Maryland.
“Anthony will make a superb Attorney General for Maryland. His candidacy is historic, as the first Black Attorney General for our state, he’ll bring a new perspective to the problems facing everyday working families and an understanding of the structural and systemic barriers that hold our neighbors back,” said Rice in the release. “I’ve seen his passion in fighting for our children and the quality education and protection they deserve. I’ve seen him fight for safer communities and a cleaner, more sustainable environment for us to raise our families. I look forward to working alongside him as he takes up these fights as our next Attorney General.”
