ROCKVILLE, MD — Montgomery County police are asking for the public's help in identifying a pair of individuals they believe is behind two attempted carjackings in Rockville.

The first incident occurred on Sunday, Jan. 31, around 5:10 p.m. Police said a 65-year-old man was parked in the Target parking garage at 5700 Bou Ave. when two suspects approached him and tried to get into his Chevrolet Trailblazer. The victim locked his doors and the suspects walked away.

Police said the victime believed the suspects vandalized his car, so he drove to a lower level of the garage to look for damages. That's when the two suspects reportedly approached him again.

The victim then got back into his vehicle and drove away, according to police.

A second incident involving a different victim was reported minutes later.

At about 5:25 p.m., a 32-year-old man exited the Giant supermarket located at 12051 Rockville Pike and saw the same two suspects standing outside the main doors, police said.

"As the victim loaded groceries in the backseat of his Toyota Camry, the suspects approached him and demanded his keys," authorities said in a statement. "One of the suspects entered the driver's seat and attempted, unsuccessfully, to operate the manual transmission. The victim punched the suspect in the face and the second suspect displayed a knife. The suspects then fled from the area."

Crime Solvers is offering a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
