Councilwoman Newton Will Run for Rockville Mayor

Kick-off event is tonight at VisArts

Rockville Councilwoman Bridget Donnell Newton will run for mayor this fall, her campaign announced via Rockville Patch.

The two-term councilwoman will hold a kickoff tonight at VisArts at Rockville Town Square.

Mayor Phyllis Marcuccio, who does not plan to run for re-election, has endorsed Newton, The Gazette reports.

Second-term Councilman Mark Pierzchala is the only other person who has filed to run for mayor, as part of the Team Rockville slate.

Rockville’s elections will be held Nov. 5. The deadline for candidates to file is Sept. 6. Newton told The Gazette that she plans to officially file to run Aug. 9.
