County COVID Cases Rise By 204 Overnight; Total Hits 27,546

ROCKVILLE, MD — Montgomery County on Monday added 204 new COVID-19 cases, bringing its overall total to 27,546 infections.

The number of new coronavirus cases has been steadily increasing since September, county public health data shows. Monday marks the 19th straight day in which the number of daily infections has tipped into triple digits.

The county added three new deaths overnight, pushing its total to 851 fatalities. The latest death toll does not include the 41 others whose deaths were linked to the virus, but never confirmed by a lab test. For now, they are considered "probable deaths."

The county — which is home to roughly 1.1 million residents — has the highest number of deaths in the state. It also has the second highest number of confirmed cases, after Prince George's County, which has 34,589, according to the latest figures.

Across Maryland, there have been 155,371 coronavirus cases, 4,072 confirmed deaths, and 149 "probable deaths." Of the 707 patients being hospitalized for the disease statewide, 168 are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
