Deck Inspection Requests Reach Record Number In MOCO, County Says

The free deck inspections were planned for the month of May in MOCO, but will continue until all requests are fulfilled, the county said.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — The county's Department of Permitting Services may be conducting free deck inspections bit longer than it had planned, since 600 homeowners have requested inspections.

The department offers the free inspections in May as part of Building Safety Month, and said that this year sets the record for the most requests since the program began in 2009.

“We want homeowners to know that inspection appointments are being completed in the order they have been received,” said James Sackett, DPS residential inspections manager. “We will continue taking requests during the month of May, and inspections will continue until we meet the demand.”

So far, inspectors have completed 300 of the requests.

The inspection is for checking the support structure of the deck, ledger attachment and overall condition of the deck.

Residents can still request inspections online, expect for those in Rockville and Gaithersburg. Those cities have their own permitting guidelines, so the county does not do inspections there.
